Mauritius Diary : A day at Casela World of Adventures

On a beautiful sunny Sunday, staying home was definitely not an option. Setting off to explore my island, we headed to Casela World of Adventures. I last visited this place around fifteen years ago and now this park is incomparable to what it was back then.

Nestled in the lovely district of Black River, Casela Nature Park is a leading attraction of the island. Home to a number of species, plants, you also enjoy stupendous views of the island plus enjoy a number of fun activities, which is a great day out alternative pleasant for both children and adults.

Casela is well known for the big cats that include lions, tigers and caracals brought to the park. Many of the animals have been exchanged with zoos and parks in other countries. Such as the two hippopotami which originate from the Czech Republic & Greece and rhinoceros from Africa. The park has gained a lot of popularity since then.

The park is open daily from 9 am to 6 pm in summer and 9 am to 5 pm in winter. The last bus for Safari is around 4.15 pm and to note that the Casela Park Theme Packages are not available on Sundays.

In addition, you get a complimentary mini safari tour on purchase of your entrance ticket. The mini safari bus will take you into the wild lush forest where the deer, zebras, ostriches, giant tortoises roam freely. Buffalos and a few more species, however, are kept within a restricted area (not too friendly, I suppose). The guide said that even though the animals can wander freely, they might find human interactions unpleasant and can become aggressive. A number of exotic and indigenous plants such as tamarind, olive, mango, ebony and pink pepper grow in there.

Some of the paid activities include Camel Riding, Horse Riding, Giraffe Feeding, Tilapias fishing, Farm animal petting, Ziplining, Canyon swing, interacting with Rhinos, walk with the lions, big cats interactions, mud karting, trekking etc. If you want more adventure, you can opt for Quad biking in the wild forest (It seems cool, I spotted a few tourists doing that).

It is good to know what is included in your entrance ticket:

– You can enjoy a walk-thru aviary and interact with the birds.
– The safari as I mentioned above.
– See the Giraffe and Camels.
– Toboggan ride
– Access to the Kid’s playground
– Petting farm
– Interact with a 3D Map of Mauritius to learn about the history and discover the main attractions of the island.

Food Option:
The main restaurant with a la carte menu offers a variety of international as well as local dishes. The view over Tamarin Bay from the restaurant is simply eye-catching. There are also a few other snacking options spread across the park.
